Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general reporter with NBC News two years later. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with President Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
